All Wrapped Up!

When I first got interested in quilting I went to a local fabric store to buy some fat quarters and I saw a quilt on the wall that really caught my eye! It was done in all black and white fabrics with big red ric-rac and called "Wrapping Paper". I duplicated the pattern (cut strips in various widths from 1"-3") and stitched it up.  It's been done for quite some time (over a year or two) but I just quilted it last month.  It was only a moment when I thought about machine binding vs. hand binding and decided on the latter.  It really is fun for me to hand bind so I whipped that out this weekend and here it is. I'm not sure if this will be a gift quilt or we'll use it, but when I spread it out on the grass, the dogs liked it so it may already be claimed.

This quilt really shows how personal taste evolves. For my newer readers, I do NOT like green, yet in my earlier projects I used it a lot and it surprises me, even now. Is there a color you used to use but now you don't?

  1. I can tell you I just cleaned out my stash that has built for many, many years and I wonder...who the hell bought all this ugly fabric? Tastes change, and charity quilt groups reap the benefits! Have a great week!

  2. What a cute quilt and kudos to you for finishing it! I do love green! In my house, I don't have any blue, but I do tend to use a lot of it when I quilt. It is actually by far the biggest stack in my stash.

  3. This is great! I love the dogs on the quilt too - it such a dog thing to do it makes me laugh (because clearly the grass wasn't soft enough).

  4. I find myself using quite a bit of orange but would typically say it is a color I don't care for. But apparently I do, because I am rather drawn to it.

  5. Awww my pups love laying on quilts too! It is really interesting to see how your taste evolves. Right now I am going through a scrappy phase. It might just be because I am trying not to spend money on fabric. I'm in the "use what you have" mode!

  8. Oooh..very pretty quilt, I love the ric-rac and colour combination. I get bored really easily so I'm constantly falling in and out of love with colours. I tend to like most colours, but I would probably say that before I started quilting I wasn't the biggest fan of yellow but I seem to use it all the time now!

  9. If the dogs love it....that's all I need to know! Dogs are very smart and picky you know!

  10. The picture with the dogs - I love it! I used to use all white for a background on most of my quilts but I am really trying my hardest not to do that anymore. I think the green looks great on this quilt though!

  11. What gorgeous dogs you have!! I made a jelly roll quilt, so not as snazzy as yours, but it has been claimed by The Labradors here!!!
